About the Programme:

The Five-Year Integrated M. Sc. Programme in Mathematics and Computing offered by the Institute of Mathematics and Applications (IMA), Bhubaneswar, is designed to equip students with a strong foundation in mathematical thinking alongside modern computational techniques. In an era driven by data, algorithms, and digital technologies, the ability to combine rigorous mathematical reasoning with efficient computational skills is essential for solving complex real-world problems. This programme aims to develop analytical, logical, and problem-solving abilities, enabling students to model, analyze, and compute solutions across diverse domains such as science, engineering, finance, and technology.

Course

Structured across ten semesters, the curriculum provides a balanced blend of core mathematics, computer science, and interdisciplinary applications. Students gain in-depth knowledge of areas such as algebra, analysis, probability, optimization, and numerical methods, complemented by programming, data structures, algorithms, and emerging areas like artificial intelligence and scientific computing. With a flexible choice of electives and exposure to contemporary computational tools, graduates of this programme are well-prepared for careers in industry, research, and academia, as well as for pursuing advanced studies in mathematics, computing, and related fields.

Eligibility:

A candidate seeking admission to this programme should have passed Higher Secondary or equivalent examination with Mathematics and English as subjects.

Applicants appearing at the qualifying examination can also appear in the entrance test. However, if selected, they have to submit the results of the qualifying examination at the time of admission along with Provisional Certificate, College/School Leaving Certificate and Mark sheet.

Intake:

The maximum number of students to be admitted into the programme is 30 which include the number of students admitted under reserved categories as prescribed by the Govt. of Odisha and in applicable at the time of admission.
